Hoysaleshwara Temple, Halebidu, Karnataka, India

12th c.

Hoysaleshwara temple is the largest among all the Hoysala temples, and the most beautiful and important in Halebeedu. The walls of the temple comprise of moldings with friezes that comprise of elephants, lions, floral scrolls, horses, puranic scenes, mythical beasts and swans and figures of Gods and Goddesses.

This sculpture depicts war scene from Mahabharata carved on the friezes.
